Awakening’ with Somatics, Yoga and Meditation

AIRYOGA - ZURICH

17th October - 19th October

Over the course of this weekend retreat, Simon will introduce his approach to a yoga world infused with Thomas Hanna’s Somatic approach to human health and healing at a cellular level, the grace and ease of chi kung, the fluid-form of yang yoga and deeply restorative yin yoga, along with a new moral compass revealed within the experience of meditation.

Embrace this unique opportunity to feel these deeply effective principles and practices woven within a broad-spectrum wellbeing experience, an approach Simon has evolved over 35+ years of teaching and research.

Each session works toward the next, and is underpinned by the philosophy and psychology of yoga. The three sessions together offer an opportunity to dive deeply into an approach that will enhance your life ‘on’ and ‘off’ the mat.

All students of any approach to yoga, therapy, movement and wellbeing are very welcome to experience ‘awakened’ personal wellbeing along with new experiences and teachings that offer a broad spectrum to a more effective and balanced practice.

SOMATICS AND YOGA – ‘THE MISSING LINK' with Simon Low

SOMATICS AND YOGA – ‘THE MISSING LINK’
with Simon Low

“It has been many years since I last shared my teachings in Norway and I look forward to returning in November. I have deepened, broadened and enriched my shared yoga practices with somatics, breathwork, chi kung and guided meditations to further cultivate health, healing and awakening to the benefits of ‘letting go’ at a brain-cellular level”

This study and practice weekend workshop will include my current explorations within yoga practice, while introducing &/or deepening the understanding and experience of a rich Thomas Hanna-inspired Somatic approach to human health and healing, and how these deeply effective practices can work together seamlessly with the practice and teaching of yoga.

This approach to movement practices has been described as the ‘missing link’ between physical therapy and yoga.

Pioneer of neurology and a philosophy professor, Thomas Hanna, created Hanna Somatic Education. The somatic movements were created to address what he saw as unhelpful movement patterns caused by held tension accumulated over the years.

These movement practices are known to help alleviate common musculoskeletal conditions, improve posture and movement, and prevent recurring pain and injuries.

HOW THE WEEKEND IS ORGANISED

Friday 22 November 18:45-20:45
Saturday 23 November 12:00-17:00
Sunday 24 November 12:00-17:00

Friday evening’s class is offered as an introductory guided practice reflecting seamless integration of yoga & somatic education, setting you up for a weekend of

Saturday will be dedicated to EXPERIENCING somatic practice & understanding the rich theory that underlies it. Tasting, sensing, embodying, and ‘feeling’ the immense benefits of focused, Thomas Hanna inspired somatic education.

On Sunday we will explore how to incorporate somatic principles and movements within the practice and teaching of yoga, with a special reference to inclusion within yin yoga, and mindful vinyasa.

You will learn a range of specific yoga asana that lend themselves very effectively for the awareness of ‘sensory motor amnesia’ and the implementation of ‘pandiculation’, two of the fundamental principles underlying somatic movement education.

This practice and training workshop offers:

  • Yoga & somatics methodology for teaching & practice

  • 2 days of dedicated guided yoga and somatic practices, principles and education.

  • A detailed introduction to the theory and methodology of Hanna-inspired somatics

  • Introduction to the concept, experience, and embodiment of ‘pandiculation’

  • Learning where ‘sensory motor amnesia’ exists within individuals

  • Anatomical teachings relating to the practices shared

  • Relevant yoga philosophy to support and enrich the shared content

  • Recommended reading and watching to support your ongoing studies

Motivations and Results of this work:

  • Lightness of our whole being can come with the joy of moving freely, and with grace, no matter what our age. As children we figured out how to walk and to balance with superb movement efficiency! We can remember this and regain the lightness of our body, as well as of our whole being

  • Do you ever feel that your movements seem heavier and more awkward than you would like? Through somatic practices we can become aware of, and discover more, about our own individual movement patterns, and areas where we are possibly holding tension. We can change the experience of our bodies if we can sense and feel it.

  • Sometimes do you feel out of sorts, low in spirit, and wish that you had more energy, physically and emotionally? Somatic practices can help us to find ways of moving with greater efficiency, standing with more ease, and a sense of improved well-being for the rest of your life. Development of a helpful relationship with gravity, by regular practice, can help us avoid unnecessary wear and tear on our joints.
